Moving iTunes libraries

18 03 2005

I’m changing my computer configuration, basically, I’m getting rid of my main hard drive and replacing it with another. One of the problems here is how do I get those songs from the computer in iTunes to the next?

It’s not really that hard to move the files; the hard part is keeping the playlists and ratings, and play counts intact. If you have enough space to actually copy all of your music library over then this guide is great. If you want some more advanced fiddling and just want to move your iTunes files instead of copy then you’ll need to read this more advanced guide.

In my case, I wanted to move my music to a different partitioned drive but the My Music folder needed to be kicking around on the C drive in order to hold the iTunes XML file. That annoyed me – I wanted ALL of the files for Music to be on my new partitioned drive. Success!! Using the TweakUI tool you can change the My Music folder to be any folder thus solving all my probelms – so much nicer :)

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Here are some really cool utilities that Windows has to make their OS a little bit more powerful and sexy! Check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx.

My Favorites are the Tweak UI and the Alt-Tab replacement – those are really great tools!

The day has come for my best man!

The rings themselves!

Today was the day for my best friend, Lyf! My best friend from grade 6 and his new FIANCÉ Jennifer have announced that they are to be wed (date yet to be announced but looking like Thanksgiving). I am now thrilled to return the honor he gave me by being the best man at his wedding. I’m so excited for him and Jennifer – they are a truly stellar couple. You heard it here first!

Favorite pics from LOTR

9 03 2005

Some of our favorite pictures from Lord of the Rings (LOTR), First is the Gollum panic scream that Heidi loves to imitate and look for in other people and animals (especially the wild cats in our back yard)

Gollum Screaming

The other favorite of mine is the Mouth of Sauron, I only saw this one when I watched the Extended Edition (the whole scene was previously cut) and it was awesome – what a menacing villian!

MovieForMe review

7 03 2005

Going through the list of online dvd rental businesses and I wasn’t thrilled with MoviesForMe.ca. The movies that I got were way down on my list, shipping took a full week to arrive (not really their fault but I still don’t like it), one of the discs was physically cracked, it was hard to browse through their titles quickly, you really had to know what you were looking for, and to cancel your account is hard (that’s one of the worst things these guys can do). On the plus side they had a personal touch which was nice by sending a bag of popcorn with their welcome letter, they allow 4 movies out at a time, and their selection was decent. On to the next one.

DaVinci Code book

7 03 2005

I finished reading (and of course when I say ‘reading’ I mean ‘listening to’) the DaVinci Code book by Dan Brown who is lately not too popular with the Christian and Catholic groups for the ideas he puts forth in his books. I’m not especially interested in debunking his book (there’s many sites that do that already) and I don’t really embrace what he has put forward but I did admine the fact that he was able to make history really interesting and even get people talking about religion. Kudos Dan!

Also on Saturday was the first day of F1 racing in Australia and we had our good friends Jeff and Marisa over to watch the fun with us cause they’re huge fans. No wins for Canadian Jacques Villeneuve or superstar Michael Schumacher but it was fun to watch.

Movies in ASCII

2 03 2005

I’ve always had a slight fascination with ASCII pictures and stuff so it comes as no surprise that I’m impressed by the dude from romanm.ch who copied some popular movie clips in rolling ASCII – it looks really cool (and may take awhile to load each clip).

Another cooked birdy

Another Patriotic Martyr

I’m not loving these suicide birds that seek the heat of the vents on my roof, shimmy their way down through those hot vents only to find that the source of the heat isn’t all that wonderful. It’s really time for me to plug up those outdoor exhaust pipes so more birds don’t do this and I have to pluck them out, it really sucks…
