Movies I've watched recently:

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

  • The Guard (2011) 8/10

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Never Fail Brownies

Never Fail Brownie
Every once in awhile I’ll put in some of my absolute favorite recipes, today it’s for the best brownies ever courtesy of Tanya Bargen. These are gooey, moist and even I can make them!

Never Fail Brownies
1 cup butter (or marj)
3 tbsp cocoa
2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
optional: 1 cup nuts

Melt butter in a pot, mix in brown sugar, then the rest of the ingredients. Pour into a 12 X 8 pan and bake at 325 for 30 minutes.

Football on TV requires PVR!

11 07 2005

Sask lost a game they really should have had against TOR this weekend. They were up most of the game and just let it slide in the late 4th; TOR got two quick touchdowns to win the game they shouldn’t have even been in. Heidi was on the edge of her seat and screaming at the TV for the roughriders to win, sadly, she went unheard. Lesson learned for the silo boys.

Oh, regarding my team (the TiCats), they’re still sucking (0-2) and really proving to be the team to not lose to again this year. Maybe in 10 to 15 years they’ll have a decent team again; when McManus is finally given the boot.

Speaking of football, on the Friday double header, I was watching so much TSN that I almost went beserk watching those Wendy’s ads over and over. I complained to Heidi so much that she said you have to do something about it. So she ‘made’ me buy a PVR from bell. So, now I’m content and a good snuggle mate during football season with no commercials. Sweet!

Heidi and I have just arrived at half of our married life in Montreal, strange isn’t it?! We’ve lived here for half of the time that we’ve lived together – I guess when I think about it, it has been awhile since I lived in Toon town.

Lastly, I learned today that it’s the 40th anniversary of my beloved Slurpee!! Today when it’s 38C with humidex I could really go for one but sadly, those little guys never made it out to QC :(
