Networking Usage

another M&H picture

I was ripping a DVD directly to a networked computer and this was the network usage – notice how it goes up and down. In trying to figure this mystery out, I had to think about it for a little while but eventually understood it – anyone else want to guess why that happens?

Movies I've watched recently:

  • Real Steel (2011) 7/10

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

  • The Guard (2011) 8/10

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

  • Moneyball (2011) 9/10

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

  • Warrior (2011) 8/10

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

  • Breaking the Press (2010) 4/10

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Canadiens steal 2!

24 04 2006

vs.

Canadiens steal a second game in double overtime to go up 2-0 on the Carolina Hurricanes. They really should have had the game wrapped up after going up 3-0 but I’m just glad they won!

Dave and Mo visit Taj Mahal!

Canadiens make the playoffs

20 04 2006

vs.

MTL squeaked into the playoffs following some great hockey at the end of the season. Well, not the VERY end of the season, but just before that. They’re lined up to play the Carolina Hurricanes who are very worthy adversaries, should be some good hockey – starting Saturday night…

Hamilton gets Holmes!!

12 04 2006

With the dispersal draft in a few hours, Hamilton brokered a deal to get Holmes from Sask for their first pick – so sweet for the ti-cats!

Mountain glow

Here in NM I saw the sun hitting the mountains in the back and since I don’t have my camera I’ll take this flickr’rs picture to show you what it’s like. It was real nice :)

Renegades kaputz

10 04 2006

The Ottawa Renegades have got themselves shut down and will not be playing in the 2006 season. Fittingly, the chief benefactors of this should be my Ti-Cats, they get first dibs on the dispersal, coming up on Wednesday. Are they going to take Kerry Joseph or leave themselves with only Maas…

Links Galore

5 04 2006

Since I don’t have del.ico.us and don’t want to figure out entirely what it actually does, I’m compiling right here a list of neat websites I’ve seen in the last few days, enjoy

CBSA – find out how much you can bring back from the States to Canada tax free depending on how many days you were down there.

Lately, I’ve wanted to figure out how to make a Google Map that has a bunch of locations on it. I wanted to make one for Trader Joe’s because when I’m on the road the method they have to find the nearest store isn’t good enough for me. I’m learning that the map making is not quite as easy as I want it to be but lots of other people have done some interesting ones already. Some of the most interesting ones have been:

New York in the Movies – find out where some movies have filmed things in New York.

The Geography of Seinfeld – Where in New York were some of those great locations from.

Housing Mapscraigslist and google maps combine to bring you a map version of rental properties that are available all over North America.

GCharts – Find the local time all over the world, includes some pictures and blog links for an added touch.

ZipDeCode – A really neat website to show you where various zip codes really go to.

NCAA basketball finals – were you confused by everything that was going on? I was, and this wiki entry cleared it all up.

YouSendIt – ever have problems sending huge emails out of your inbox? Use this service for free to send gigantic emails (<1GB) to someone who can take that kind of abuse.

Yoono – my very favorite Firefox plugin. Syncronizes your bookmarks automatically across a bunch of computers, useful for keeping my bookmarks at work and home the same (if you want that sort of thing), even works on my work’s Linux partition.

That’s it for now…

Cripes! New picture!

car fire

My buddy Lyf made a new title for his website’s front page which reads, “The Third Weekend in Tuesday” – which is simply a silly thing that his friend said. As a tribute to silly things that friends say I re-marketted my webpage as, “Cripes! Light on is in the car” which is something Lyf said when he didn’t have enough time to properly say, “Oops, I left the interior light on in my automobile”. The shortcuts we take…

The West Coast Chopper font (Ironwood) is a fitting tribute to his great love of motorcycles. I took this photo from a flickr dude (without permission), please don’t hate me chwang.
