TiCats revamp during busy week

31 08 2006

After being a general disappointment to me because of their 2-9 start right after their 5-13 season last year; the TiCats have decided to try to make me happy again. They’ve tried to do this by releasing their Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, Joe Paopao and Kani Kauahi, then their General Manager, Rob Katz steps down, then they trade Belli to Montreal.

In return, they got Marcel Desjardins of Montreal as their new GM, in return for Belli they took defensive tackle Clinton Wayne and linebacker Phillip Gauthier recently, they re-aquired Kahlil Hill who was recently cut from his NFL team. To replace offensive line coach Kani Kauahi they plucked John Salavantis from his broadcasting job for the TiCats.

Whew! That is a lot of links to read how the TiCats are going to try to not suck so badly in their next game. Because there’s nothing that says, “You’re really bad” like being ouscored 100-10 in the last 3 games at home. Ouch.

Movies I've watched recently:

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

  • The Guard (2011) 8/10

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Jesus Camp Trailer

31 08 2006

Here’s a really interesting trailer for a movie called Jesus Camp about a group of Christian kids and their experience and camp where they learn to be so proud of Jesus. I wasn’t sure if I was completely creeped out or if I thought I should be more like these people; also, I hear from early reviewers that both Christians and movie lovers (no, they don’t go together) thought it was representative and well done.

Electric Sports Car

27 08 2006

I think that I’ve been waiting around to buy a car because I want an electric powered one – NO GASOLINE!! Tesla motors has come out with a mean looking sports car that’s 100% electric – I’m a fan :)

Soft as hospital cotton

26 08 2006

vs.

In the rematch of the blowout last week where Sask kicked Hamilton, it seems that Hamilton is going to again lose badly to Sask. At present, Hamilton is down about 48-8 in points and down 8-0 in turnovers. So painful to watch… As Benefield said, this team is, “as soft as hospital cotton”; so true.

Pity the perfume people

16 08 2006

Due to the almost attacks in the UK, almost 200 Canadians have lost their jobs at duty free and other shops because customers are not allowed to take their stuff on board.

Personally, I’m not a big fan that I have to leave my liquids, gels and lotions in the checked luggage. This means that unless I want to rebuy all that stuff when I land, I need to check it which also means I need to wait forever for the baggage to arrive when I land. After not checking any bags for a few years this is a tiresome activity.

Just wait, soon we won’t be able to take backpacks onto the Metro…

Hot day then thunderstorm

Wind downed part of our tree

It seems to follow a bit of a pattern this time of year that we get a really hot and muggy day (46C today with humidity!) then at night it releases with a huge lightning show. This time around, I think that the wind got the most of the tree in front of our house so we’re one branch less tomorrow that will be blocking the sun for us. I imagine my office is going to be even hotter…
