Ever since I’ve got my new Compaq the hompage has been locked to their site. I can try and change it in the Options but every time I reopen, it goes back.
I tried going and digging around in the registry to find the culprit there and I found one entry that seemed to be the problem, it was:
Success!! Problem being that when I went to delete the entry or even modify it I got a message that I wasn’t allowed to do that. ARGH!
Who was protecting that entry, and why??!! After some more digging, I found out that it’s a bug in the personal version of Zone Alarm that doesn’t seem to be there in the pro version. Looks like I’m going to be upgrading – oh, and blast you Zone Alarm; if only I didn’t need you so badly!!
This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.
When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.
Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.
Brown re-signed with the Eskimos for one year plus an option. He started all 18 games in his return to the Eskimos. He led the team in quarterback sacks with 12 and recorded 20 defensive tackles, four tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was named CFL Lineman of the Week for his pair of tackles and three sacks versus Hamilton on September 16. He was the 2006 Eskimos nominee for Outstanding Defensive Player.
Heidi and I often have bets going on stupid things that we disagree on and are certain that we’re right on. The latest one is what we think the Mirage chocolate bar is made of.
One of us is certain that it is basically an Aero bar with a different (Toblerone-ish) shape and the other thinks it has some Three Musketeer-ish nougat inside of it.
Wikipediaseems to agree with the first person but we have yet to find one in the grocery store so we’re not positive, who do you think is right?
UPDATE: I just went to the grocery store where they had one and it appears as though the Aero bar similarity has won out
Giveaway of the Day is a new website that gives away software legally which is normally around the $30 price range. The catch? You have to download it and install it on the day it is available. If you get it installed in time, it’s yours for free – so check it out often (daily, even!)
Today, Jeremy called with computer problems saying that he was having startup issues. He said that the last time his computer started it took him seven tries till it finally started and this time after five tries he gave up and deemed it not working.
I had an old Sunday School story in my head of some guy washing himself seven times in the river to cure himself of leprosy but he didn’t see the connection. To convince myself that I wasn’t making this one up, I looked it up and found it in 2 Kings 5.
10 Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.”
11 But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage.
13 Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” 14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.
I guess the lesson being – always do things seven times before giving up!
Last week, the Office was super sized which means that my normal PVR didn’t catch the end of it. After searching and finding lots of dud torrents, I found the good one at mininova – thought I’d save you the searching time…
So, normally, I don’t cheer for Montreal for reasons I won’t get in to but today in the Grey Cup final vs. BC I was cheering for them (I wanted Tom to get another ring!) but I think that was their demise as they lost pretty convincingly to BC.
On a brighter note: Sask Huskies have made it to the Vanier Cupagain – and it’s being played in Saskatoon! That game is being played next weekend and I sure hope that they can win it!
I was battling with my *ahem* craftily acquired copy of MS Outlook 2003 to get my calendars and contacts to work. It seemed like I was having a .pst file issue. After learning way too much stuff about registries and everything I decided to attempt another piece of software to retrieve emails.
Since I use Firefox regularly for the last while to browse the net and am a HUGE fan of it, I thought that I’d give their email tool a try to see how I like it. I’ve been using Thunderbird for almost a month now and it’s a decent tool.
I’ve migrated my old emails, contacts and calendar over without much trouble. I like that it’s a simpler application but I do miss some of the customization available in MS. Some of the shortcuts are a little different so that’s taking a bit of time to get used to. A big positive is that I like using free, open source code better than the craftily acquired stuff – I feel much better about it!
Don Lafontaine has the voice you’ll be certain to recognize but a face you haven’t seen – that’s right! It’s the movie trailer voice guy! Not to be confused with the guy who did one of my favorite trailers ever, but he’s still pretty awesome.
Update: Some more info on Don at wikipedia says he DID do the Seinfeld trailer – I guess he is really awesome (awefull actually!)
Update again: seems like wikipedia is full of holes (who knew!) and the Seinfeld guy is actually Hal Douglas, Don’s my second favorite again…
