Home Renovations

31 05 2007

My parents have kindly agreed to come out to Montreal help to renovate our bathroom. The job has turned from a pretty simple job in our mind to a very thorough redo-ing. We’re very happy with how things have turned out so far – till now we’ve got the glass blocks in (see photo), the toilet, the tub and we’re working on the drywall in a few days.

Movies I've watched recently:

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

  • The Guard (2011) 8/10

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Stanley Cup Finals all set

22 05 2007

And for the third Cup Finals in a row, we have some CDN representation. I’m cheering hard for the Senators but that didn’t really help the Oilers or Flames last times. I hope that these guys have saved enough steam for the final round – they’ve been hot all playoffs…

Like your soda fizzzzzy?

And you also drink enough to warrant a 2L?

This tip from my brother-in-law has made for many fizzy drinks long after the bottle was originally opened. When you’re done drinking, just squeeze all the air out of the bottle by squishing the sides. Once your pop line is back to the top, seal up the lid. This way the fizz has less places to go to and will stay in your soda longer.

It does make your 2L bottle look a little funny but the benefits here are worth the eye-sore.

NHL Final Four all ready to go!

8 05 2007

So the final four teams have been set with most of the high ranked teams making in through. I’m cheering for Ottawa in a big way because we gotta bring the cup back to Canada, man!
