Browsing through a book sale at MultiMags, Heidi found the book, “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” for $2 about the guy who trapped his hand while hiking and had to self-amputate it to survive. I recently finished reading the story and it was pretty outstanding – an amazing story which ultimately makes you wonder what you would do in the same situation. The last sentence was pretty good,
When we find inspiration, we need to take action for ourselves and for our communities. Even if it means making a hard choice, or cutting out something and leaving it in your past.
Saying farewell is also a bold and powerful beginning.
This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.
When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.
Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.
For the first time in about 30 years the Canadian dollar is worth more than the American dollar. This is actually bad news for me because I get paid in translated US$ but I’m still happy for my people; Who has got the funny money now??!
On Tuesday, I found myself in Long Island, NY and able to take in a Mets game. I’m not a huge baseball fan but I do enjoy an outing and this one was a bunch of fun.
The game itself was quite boring until the bottom of the very last inning when the hometown Mets were down 10-3 (the stadium was pretty empty by this time). After a big 3 run home run and another 3 run RBI double, the Mets were within 1, with 1 on second and only 1 out – what a finish this was going to be! The now diminished crowd was roaring in support but with only one hit needed to drive the runner on 3rd home, the home team couldn’t quite get it and ended up short on a great comeback.
They still haven’t quite locked up their playoff spot so they need to win some games to make that happen – go Mets!
This was the best YouTube video I’ve seen in a long time. The quality of the video wasn’t great, it was shaky and the audio is worse than radio but man, is it ever good music! At the ~2:15 mark when all the instruments are just blasting away, I got little shivers – oh yeah!! Enjoy!
So, another season is virtually a wash for the TiCats at 1-8 but they’ve made another big signing with the acquisition of Printers off his unsuccessful NFL attempt. For the TiCats, their record in the last 5 1/2 years (99 games) is 27-71-1 and they haven’t gone over .500 at all in those years. Nowhere to go but up, right!!
Heidi and I were getting a big laugh out of Nestea’s openness to talk about nutrition with the Iced Tea product – here’s what they had to say:
Good for you
Experience the refreshing hydration of Nestea. With Natural tea and lemon flavor each glass contributes to your daily water needs. As always Nestea lemon contains 10mg of caffeine per 250mL serving and a touch of sweetness – great for you and your family!
Now, is the touch of sweetness referring to the fact that you’re putting sugar into your water? Sugar is the first ingredient and in an 18g serving, you’re getting 17g of sugar; not leaving too much room for all that lemon taste and covetous caffeine.
Oh, and what is Nestea offering in the way of hydration? Isn’t that the water your mixing with the Nestea which is giving you all of your hydration? It could be likened to saying that cigarettes help you get your daily intake of air – sure they kinda wreck the air that’s coming in so it’s not as useful to you but it does make getting that air in a lot more fun – almost like an event – YEEAAAHHH!!
Read your labels friends – just cause a company wants to talk about nutrition doesn’t mean they’re doing a lick about it. Hmm, all this typing has made me thirsty, but water’s so boring…
