BSG Top 10

27 03 2008

So Chris was trying to one up my awesome Last supper picture (explanation) with a recap of what happened in the first 3 seasons (which was admittedly pretty cool); so I’m responding with a Top 10 reasons to watch BSG for season 4.

Movies I've watched recently:

  • Real Steel (2011) 7/10

    YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

  • The Guard (2011) 8/10

    * * * * * * * *

    This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

  • Moneyball (2011) 9/10

    * * * * * * * * *

    When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

  • Warrior (2011) 8/10

    * * * * * * * *

    MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

  • Breaking the Press (2010) 4/10

    2012-01-06 21:41
    * * * *

    Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Habs in the playoffs!

25 03 2008

The Habs are the third team to lock up a playoff berth after Detroit and San Jose did it recently. Now on top of the Eastern conference they’re looking to win the conference in the last stretch here; pretty impressive considering Saku wasn’t thinking too much of the team at the beginning of the year (I’m sure that he’s happy to be wrong though).

Binocular beef

Have you ever looked through a pair of binoculars? Did you notice that there was only one circle and not two side by side circles like in the above screenshot.

This happens to be one of my ongoing pet-peeves with accuracy in filmmaking – they never do binoculars correctly! They can easily get scopes or monoculars (made up word alert!) correct but the binoculars are a big problem. Feel free to adopt this as your own peeve.

Movies I’m excited about

Here are 4 movies that I’m pretty excited about. Surfwise is possibly the first movie made directly and entirely on a subconscious request from Heidi’s brain and the other 3 look hilariously awesome.

BSG Last Supper

OK, so I’m a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica and I’m eagerly awaiting the shows return next month to find out what’s going to happen in the final season of the show.

I checked out their webpage and noticed this awesome picture of the re-enactment of the Last Supper – I love it and can hardly wait for some more BSG action!

Smoke Signals

We were in Florida last week and we got to see a plane etch-a-sketch in the sky a smoke signal that read, “Turn to Jesus”. I was pretty amazed at the budget Jesus has in the States – I don’t think he could afford such colorful marketing in Canada.

House SketchUp

I was goofing around with Google SketchUp and decided to learn it by drawing out the floorplan to our current house, here it is…

Oh, and the Habs are on top of their conference right now – boo yah!

Really moving to BC!

OK, so I don’t blame you if you scoff just a little bit when you hear that Heidi and I are going to move to BC… again… But this time it’s for real!

We already bought a house in BC and the conditions are being removed this week; possession is May 1 so we’re really boogie-ing to get our place here in MTL sold in time. We’ve already cleaned it and had our first showing today – wow this is going fast.

On this move to BC, we decided to move to beautiful Yarrow instead of Vancouver proper for a few legitimate reasons; one being that we can’t afford a family sized house in Vancouver – well, that’s kind of the only really good reason, so it’ll have to do.

We’re excited to live nearby family and reap the benefits (and probably pay a few consequences) and avoid the harsh reality of winter for awhile. Sorry to the people who were thinking of visiting us in Montreal this summer but you’ll have to turn around and go the other direction now…
