All your Base

24 04 2008

I was humming an Ace of Base song the other day and after Saffron and I sat down to watch a video of it, we then clicked through to some other videos and got totally hooked. I’m now humming this all the time and making excuses to pump myself up for packing boxes with the Ace’s. I’m totally lame listening to ’90′s dance music but it is good times and reminds me of the Lyfster and driving around in that crappy Vista.

Oh, and the biggest up’s to the Habs who squeaked out a win by scoring with less than a minute left in the game to tie and under a minute into overtime to win – yahoo!

Movies I've watched recently:

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

  • The Guard (2011) 8/10

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

Help, I’m getting covetous!

24 04 2008

I was driving around Montreal and saw this brand new beauty in front of me – what a nice looking car! They have improved the car in some great ways, most notably the leggier space for the back seat people as well as some other niceties.

I have to remind myself that besides the fact that I still have 3 years on my lease, I don’t need to have the newest and best stuff – an ’07 Forester will probably suffice…

But, me wantsies!

Mustard Cutter!

21 04 2008

mustard_cutter.jpg

After posting my entry about how a bunch of Canadian teams didn’t make it to the playoffs, Heidi got a kick out of my saying that they, “couldn’t cut the mustard”. She had never heard that phrase before even though I did in fact get it right, this time.

That led to jokes and all manner of silliness which ended with me saying that I want a shirt that has “Mustard Cutter!” on it. This would let everyone know that I can indeed, cut the mustard.

On to Round 2!

21 04 2008

So the Habs were able to make slow work of the Bruins with a convincing 5-0 win in the crucial game 7 at home here in Montreal. Next round is against either Philly or the Rangers – should be a good second round!!

Just for Men – Touch of Gray

12 04 2008

touch_of_gray-why-use.jpg

So, I was watching the Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins using the fantastic myp2p service since my bunny ears were not bringing in the reception that I required (thanks Eric the clown!). This meant that I had to watch it on the VS. network instead of the regular CBC which ended up being ok because I got new ads, and States ads at that.

The one that stuck out at me as being utterly ridiculous was the Just for Men ad. I can fathom why graying men want to cover up their gray but why they’d want to partially cover up their gray and purposely leave some unattended gray is well beyond me. But that’s exactly what they’re trying to pull off:

A little gray to show your experience, but not so much that it hides your vitality.

The lunacy of this leaves me speechless…

“Don’t trust anyone over 90″

What does this even mean??!!

Habs win their conference!!

6 04 2008

They’re the best in the East and for their first round of the playoffs they get to face the Boston Bruins who they’ve beaten in all 8 of their 8 meetings this year. I’m hoping that trend continues.

The Canadian teams in the playoffs this year are:

These poor suckers couldn’t cut the mustard…

As a side project, I’m jumping on the Capitals bandwagon and cheering on their miracle season – those guys are inspired and I hope that the Habs don’t have to face them.

Stuff White People Like

The blog belonging to my friend Amy has led me to a site rich with satirical wit on the “Stuff White People Like“. I’ll admit to liking a large majority of these “stuffs” and possibly being a bit sheepish about it now after reading them.

Here are some of my favorites:
