Where I’ve been the last month

31 05 2010

With my spare time in the last month, I’ve been crafting up a MegaMan 2 cross stitch scene from the final battle with Metal Man; that’s why my posting’s have been sparse. The total scene is 81 X 81 squares (6561 stitches) and it took me about 50 to 60 hours and I got through a lot of hockey as well as the Caprica, Spartacus and the Terminator series’. If all goes according to plan, I have 7 or more to do – I’m on to Flash Man next.

I got the graphic from RedHerring1Up who did the project with beads – see all the levels here if you want to preview what I’m going to be doing for a few years.

See my previous crafty MegaMan post and play the game here.

Movies I've watched recently:

YVR > SJC - kind of a zany concept but it works relatively well, not a great boxing movie but not too bad.

This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.

When a movie with a plot as benign as MLB drafting and trading using statistics instead of scouting intuition is this entertaining, you know they did something right. Great story that had both Heidi and I riveted to a sport that we really know and care very little about.

MSP > YVR - Solid acting in this action-drama, decent story, pretty good fight scenes and sympathetic characters. All in all, nicely done.

Ugh, this Christian movie was not worth watching. While it followed the plot of the Prodigal Son story closely, it seemed to lack all the great details that we had been learning about in the Prodigal God book study that we were going through. The acting was poor, most of the characters were poorly developed and the dialog was very local (to Texas) and didn't sound very natural to my Canadian ears.

“The Shack” review

27 05 2010

I’ve been on a few flights lately and had some time to read William Young’s, “The Shack”. It’s a pretty popular book these days and I was completely taken with it. It deals with a man’s heartbreaking loss and how God meets him in his despair.

Most of what I think about this book is incredibly positive. Despite the topic, it’s quite an uplifting story. I really enjoyed getting a new picture in my head of what God is like, how the Trinity works, why bad things happen and what God thinks of us. I loved how God longs to be close to every one of His children, that he expects nothing from us other than relationship and how the different persons of God relate to us differently. I imagine that my view of God will be forever changed after reading this book.

I’m not really a reader so it’s nice when I finally muster up the will to read to be rewarded with such an easy to read and thought provoking book.

Best Movies

26 05 2010

In the last little while, I’ve stumbled upon a few movie review sites that claim to have the 20 best movies of the last decade and the 10 best cult movies.

On these lists, of the movies I’ve seen, I’ve usually enjoyed them quite a lot and in a lot of cases, they correspond with my very favorite movies.

Probably some worthwhile movies to check out in these lists…

PC Financial & Mint.com

5 05 2010

I’m a big fan of PC Financial for its free chequing and I’m trying to get off of MS Money for managing all my data as it’s no longer being supported by MS. I’ve been really interested in Mint.com for awhile but until recently, it hasn’t been available in Canada. From this tweet, I noticed that mint is now supporting PC Financial (verified it myself!) and I’m hoping that they’ll continue to add more Canadian banks so I can make the switch over.
