It took me a trip to Detroit and a chatty hotel check clerk to find out that beyond just being a city name, Chilliwack is also the name of a Vancouver band that was popular in the early 80′s. I had no clue what he was talking about at the time but after checking them out on youtube, I did recognize their most famous song from the radio. Here you are:
Documentary about the rise of Air Guitar in the States and it's popularity worldwide. The first few minutes it seems to be really bizarre to be taken so seriously but by the end it begins to seem much more normal.
Far too slow with little plot at all. I understand that it was going for character development more so than plot but it seemed to just drop every character that it started a story with, the insomniac at the beginning, Ken, the drunkard and ultimately Mary who seemed to become the lead character by the end. No closure and way too little happening.
On Kevin's recommendation, Heidi and I watched this movie and we were glued to the screen throughout. It's the story of a woman's acceptance and struggle with her faith. I have no idea who I could recommend this to as it can be a bit crude for a Christian movie and a bit boring for those who like more' entertaining' movies. Nevertheless, her openness is powerful, "I gave my heart outright. I'm telling you today, I'm still waiting for Him to make Himself at home. I feel like I live in an empty place."
This movie came well recommended to me and it was a good, strange and profanity laced comedy. The main character was profound, confusing and yet remarkably consistent and believable. Some good lines in there and a nice change of pace from an action movie loaded with action to this one which seems to try to avoid it at every turn.
We don’t have an air popcorn popper at our house, so we normally stick with the microwave kind (when we’re not doing the delicious kettle kind). Heidi was always looking for microwave popcorn bags that are really low in salt, butter and as a bonus, organic. Those can be tough to find and when you do, expensive as well.
The overwhelmingly simple solution from here is to simply put 1/2 cup of popcorn into a brown paper bag, fold the end and put it into the microwave until it’s done. You can even reuse the bag for next time!
This was big news in our house and the kids love popcorn during their videos so I thought I’d share the tip with my devoted readership.
After pounding the Eastern conference clinched top-seed Montreal Alouettes 40-3 last week, Hamilton got its place as second on the very scientifically (ha!) based Power Rankings behind my brother’s favorite team, the Stampeders.
Hamilton is tied for third in the league (with Saskatchewan) behind Montreal (who they blew out!) and Calgary (who they’re going to beat this weekend!). They’ve locked up a playoff spot and are looking to lock up the home game with any win or any Toronto loss.
I’m happy that the TiCats really seem to be peaking at the end of the season going in to the playoffs and I’m really hoping they can retain some of that momentum after the regular season is over.
If you’ve been on a flight in the last little while, you’ve probably seen these big machines that the TSA is heavily promoting as a way to speed up your time going through security. While that is true, the thing I don’t like about it is that they’re a total invasion of privacy.
Most people think that they’re just big metal detectors or they’re like an x-ray machine and they maybe would be able to see you about like this. Problem is that they don’t only do that, they can see you completely naked, more like this (from here).
Some people in Britain (where they’re mandatory) had skipped their flights because they didn’t want to go through them and recently a pilot in the States has refused to be seen naked or groped as an alternative. Kudos to him; hopefully this can bring about some change – I think the personal freedom’s that we’re willing to give up for the feeling of security is obscene.
Now, if they could just compress that machine into a pair of glasses that they could sell at the back of Archie comics, every little boy’s dream would come true.
I recently read that WestJet is entering talks with American Airlines to do some sort of flight share business to get more flights into the States that are not vacation destinations.
In my imagination this may mean that I’ll be able to fly out of Abbotsford with minimal connections to American destinations which would make my flying commutes a lot easier at least at the sending and receiving ends. Let’s hope they can get a good partnership going!
I noticed in my web wanderings that there was a really odd effect if you use your camera’s phone to record the propellers of an airplane – see a better recording or pictures.
The answer is pretty interesting and has to do with how phones capture movies and the speed of the propeller – there’s a good explanation of that here. Enjoy the maths!
If I was sleeping and had only one pillow; there’s a good chance that it would go between my knees instead of under my head. The fact that there’s a SkyMall product designed to ease my weird need makes me feel a bit better; not too much though cause there’s a lot of weird stuff in there.
Last year, I got close to making the lowest tier of status with both Alaska and Aeroplan without making either of them. So, this year, I wanted to make sure that I made at least one of them and so by focusing my flights more toward Alaska, I made it. There’s really no fan fare on my account at all, I’ve seen more congratulations when I finish a game of solitaire; it only says that the next level I’m going for is now Gold instead of MVP.
So, with all this effort, what did I end up gaining?
