Top 10 Movies of 2010

31 12 2010
As has been my tradition for the last 8 years (see 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 and 2002) I’m making a list of my favorite 10 movies that I watched for the first time this year. Of course, I’m not recommending these movies for everyone, if you want personal recommendations, let me know. In alphabetical(ish) order, here’s the list:

Honorable Mentions to Journey of Man, Dear Zachary, Date Night, Batman: Red Hood and The Social Network which are also great films.

Avatar AMAZING effects that really immerse you in the world of Pandora. When the movie was over, I was sad that I had to leave the whole experience. The story was not bad at all, nothing incredibly original but it was re-heated with great skill. It is best to see in the theaters (in 3D)!
“Community” The most creative and funny comedy on TV today. I love all the different spoof episodes – the originality of this show and the chances they take on weird stories is the best I’ve seen possibly ever. Great show
Inception Woah!! This is big budget movie making! Very smart story, well acted, awesome effects and it sticks with you for awhile after watching – go see this!
Red This was a ton of fun, reminded me of The Losers which I enjoyed but with an A-cast. Great characters, acting and over the top action.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Ooh, I loved the originality of this movie!! It did so many things that were just wonderful and unique so for that I give it big applause
The Blind Side I had really low expectations for this and it really surprised me. I was expecting something much more weepy but it was more subtle than I thought it would be. Sandra Bullock had a great performance and I’d easily recommend watching this to anyone. The only thing that I didn’t love was all the internal references and cameos by college football coaches; otherwise all was well.
The Other Guys I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. WF tends to have a singular style and while it was somewhat true of his character here, there was enough fresh stuff to keep me laughing. I loved the whisper funeral fight, the different kind of ‘bad guy’, and so many other things in this. Worth watching.
Toy Story 3 The Toy Story trilogy doesn’t disappoint at all and this is no exception. Great return of the characters for another slightly darker expedition to a daycare and the toys that run it. Great fun and adventure.
Up in the Air Loved this movie! So much detail about flying, staying away from home that I could really relate to. The story itself was surprisingly gentle for being about such a grave topic (firing people), the romance was enjoyable to watch and the ending was surprising and good.
Zombieland Great movie which only suffered from being included in my least favorite genre (horror). Lots of jokes and clever insight into humanity and the calculated defeat of zombies make this a unique and fun movie. Thanks for making me watch this one Andy.
